Swollen feet is one of the most
common problems faced by many when there is too much of exertion and
your legs are always on the run. Swollen feet is also very common
during pregnancy. The various causes of swelling
in the feet are pregnancy, menstruation, obesity, old age resulting
in weakness of bones, and foot injuries. There is another major cause
of swollen feet, referred as edema, or peripheral edema, which is
caused by an abnormal retention of water and fluids. Some others face
swollen feet problem when they have high uric acid in the body or
other health problems like kidney problem, urine infection, internal
foot infection, nervous problem and stress. Usually swollen foot is
accompanied by pain. It is best to administer swollen feet at the
right time. Before resorting to any medication, try out some home

Cucumber Treatment
You can use cucumber to treat swollen
feet. It can absorb excessive water from the body. Take a slice of
cucumber, put it on your foot, and cover it with a cotton cloth or
bandage to relieve the swelling.
Foot Soaking
- Keep your feet under running cold water for 20 minutes. This is an effective cure for swelling in tired feet.
- Boil two cups of water with coriander seeds. When the water level reduces to half, cool it off and soak your leg in it. This reduces the swelling as well as the pain.
- Another good home remedy is soaking the feet in cold water for few minutes. This will help reduce the edema and relieve swollen feet.
- You can also soak your feet in warm water with salt for at least 15 minutes. This will relax your leg and feet muscles and ease discomfort.
Massage
- Massage your feet with apple cider vinegar.
- Massage with mustard oil is an ancient home remedy for swollen feet.
- After the foot soak, you can massage your legs and feet with aromatherapy oils
Diet
- Control the consumption of salt: Salt has osmotic actions which can increase the level of water retention. This leads to swelling of the feet. So it is better to reduce the consumption of salt, especially raw salt. Also avoid canned and processed foods as they are rich in salt.
- Garlic: Everyday consume two garlic cloves in morning in empty stomach. This also reduces swelling.
- Foods with diuretic properties: Increase food intake with diuretic properties as they help flushing out excessive fluids from the body. Barley water and parsley water are very good for edema. Celery seed, dandelion, juniper berries, asparagus, melon, watercress all have good diuretic properties.
