Dr. T.L Devaraj, born in 1938, graduated in Ayurveda from the Government College of Indian Medicine, Mysore, in 1963. He was deputed for higher studies in Ayurveda to Banaras Hindu University (D.Ay.M) in 1972. He has worked as an Ayurvedic Physician, as a Health Officer and as Assistant Professor

Dr. Devaraj is the author of several books and a research article on Ayurveda. He received the international service award for his contribution to Ayurveda.

Some Important Books on Ayurveda

Dr. Devaraj is a scholar in Ayurveda who has gained wide popularity not only as an Ayurvedic physician but also as a writer of books on Ayurveda. His book, the panchakarma Treatment of Ayurveda in English and Panchakarma Chikitsa Vijnana in two volumes in Kannada, won him appreciation from many authorities on Ayurveda. He has got many firsts to his credit. He has also written a book, The Health and Family Welfare in Ayurveda, and a booklet on family planning in ancient India, both in Kannada. These books are the first of their kind in the English and Kannada language. His book, Mane Maddu (Home Remedies) in Kannada has received appreciation not only from Ayurvedic physicians but also from the Kannada Government which has sanctioned for it a token grant of Rs. 2000.

Some Research Papers on Ayurveda

Dr. Devaraj has published several research papers on Ayurveda. His great works have won appreciation from eminent scholars of Ayurveda. He was honored by His Holiness Jagadguru Shankaracharya of Sringeri Mutt, Karnataka State, for his outstanding contribution to Ayurveda.

In the present work, Dr. Devaraj has tried to prescribe Ayurvedic remedies for a disease of which allopathic names are mentioned. It is easy for the common reader to follow the Ayurvedic line of treatment as most of the medicines required are easily available and have no side-effects. Even until today, there are diseases like jaundice, rheumatism, skin infection, etc., which require only Ayurvedic treatment for a complete cure. India is proud of this system of medicine which has been rejuvenated since the dawn of Independence.

The author has also recommended diet and regimen to be followed during treatment.
Photographs of plants (drugs) given in the book will help the readers to identify and use them. The book is useful for the layman as well as medical practitioners and foreigners interested in Ayurveda.

Dr. Devaraj deserves hearty congratulations for having brought out this useful book, written in a lucid style.

May Lord Almighty Allah bless Dr. Devaraj and enable him to bring out more works on this subject for the benefit of the suffering humanity and to spread knowledge of this science among the medical community of the world and to educate the public about the utility and efficacy of Ayurveda.
