Natural Home Remedies For Acne

Making the switch from store-bought, chemical-filled acne “cures” to natural homemade acne treatments has many benefits. One benefit of using natural remedies is that you save money. Store-bought acne treatments can be very expensive and will not necessarily work for your skin. Natural acne remedies are far less expensive with many options available in your own cupboard! Using natural acne remedies also allows you to control what goes on your sensitive skin. Rather than trust these unknown (and hard to pronounce) substances on your skin, try natural remedies first.

While there are countless successful natural acne remedies you can make at home, here are a few examples of some of the most popular and simple remedies:

  • Honey – This sweet and sticky substance is not just for your biscuits or yogurt. Honey has amazing antimicrobial and healing properties. These beneficial properties could work wonders for your acne-prone skin. To use honey as a natural home acne remedy, simply dip a cotton swab into the honey and apply to troublesome areas. Leave the honey on these areas for at least 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

  • Lemon Juice – Lemon contains Vitamin C and has highly acidic properties that are effective at fighting off acne-causing bacteria. When using lemon juice to fight acne make sure to use the juice from a freshly cut lemon, not from a bottle that also contains preservatives. You can then apply the lemon juice to troublesome spots with a clean cotton swab. Let the lemon juice stay on the spots overnight. Rinse with warm water in the morning. Lemon has also been used to minimize the appearance of dark spots that appear on the skin as a result of acne or acne scarring.

  • Cucumber – With natural soothing properties, cucumbers have long been used in beauty routines to decrease puffiness and soothe skin. Cucumbers contain many rich nutrients like Vitamins A, C and E. To use cucumber to treat your acne, simply slice it and apply it to your acne-prone areas. Let the cucumber sit on these trouble spots for 20 minutes. Remove the cucumber and wash your face with warm water.

Cucumbers are also commonly used in natural facemasks. To make a moisturizing and cleansing cucumber face mask, simply mix a grated cucumber with 1 cup of oatmeal. Combine the two ingredients until the mixture has the consistency of yogurt. Apply the mask to your face and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse all of the mask off with warm water.

These are just a few of the many natural home remedies you can use to fight acne. While no one remedy is guaranteed to completely clear up your acne, a combination of natural remedies coupled with a good diet, enough sleep and exercise will cause your acne to disappear!
